The Reform Movement Produces Provocative, dynamic lessons on the entire cycle of Torah portions are now available through Engaging Torah: Contemporary Insights on Tape, an audiocassette series produced by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. On each side of tape, students of Torah can hear a different parashah with commentary by Reform Movement congregational rabbis, UAHC leaders, and HUC-JIR scholars representing a wide variety of views and backgrounds. They include UAHC President Rabbi Eric H. Yoffie, Rabbi Lawrence Kushner, Dru Greenwood (director of Outreach for the UAHC and the Central Conference of American Rabbis), Dr. Carole Balin, and Dr. Norman J. Cohen. "This project, which has been more than a decade in the making, presents Jews with more opportunities to bring Torah into their lives," said Rabbi Daniel Freelander, director of program at the UAHC. "They don't have to live near the Reform seminary or in a big city to study Torah with leading teachers. These tapes bring the teachers to them." A perfect present for adults as well as bar/bat mitzvah students, the tapes can be used at home, in the car, or at synagogue. The collection of 28 tapes provide a perfect entry into the weekly celebration of Shabbat. The package also includes a free audiocassette of Sidrah Stories (creative interpretations of Bible stories), along with a study guide that explores the traditional role of Torah commentary. Engaging Torah, which retails for $180.00, is available through the URJ PRESS. The Press is the publishing division of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, the central body of Reform Judaism in North America, uniting 1.5 million Reform Jews in more than 880 synagogues.
